Muslim Community Events £75,000 Rohingya Challenge

Tariq Razzaq has been an active event organiser and fundraiser for over a decade. In 2014, after successfully fundraising in Oxford for the ongoing crises in Syria and Gaza, Tariq established the non-profit org. Muslim Community Events, with the aim of bringing people together and unifying the Muslim community for worthy causes.

The MCE team, whose three key objectives are to work with sincerity, do things with perfection and to unify communities, is made up of eight core members and an impressive thirty volunteers. They all work hard to unite the community on a local and national level.

Right now, MCE are focusing on raising funds for the Rohingya people, a Muslim community in Myanmar that has endured years of hardship and persecution. Their target is to raise £75,000 to support ļֱ in building shelter homes for Rohingya families and they are running a series of exciting events across the UK so everyone has a chance to be involved.

When we asked Tariq why MCE had chosen to focus on the Rohingya he told us that, ‘Despite being one of the most persecuted minorities in the world, the Rohingya have been sidelined and forgotten about because of a lack of media coverage. We want to raise awareness about their plight’.

This is not Tariq’s first experience of working with ļֱ. Ten years ago, he was involved in organising a cycle ride with MH to raise funds for Sudan. When we aksed Tariq why he had chosen to partner with ļֱ again he told us, ‘Not only did I have a good experience with the charity when I last worked with them, but also ļֱ is one of the few charities actually working on the ground in Myanmar to support the Rohingya community’.

So far, through a dinner in Oldham and local mosque collections, MCE has raised an impressive £36,000, alhamdulillah. They will continue to hold events across the UK including the upcoming Bolton Family Funday on 27th September and an exclusive sister’s event in Leicester on the 11th October. Both events are free to enter.

If you would like to be involved in raising much needed funds for the suffering Rohingya you can contact Muslim Community Events on +44 (0)7545 674728 or check out their upcoming events on their web page .
